How Keyword Intent is Calculated by Semrush
Semrush examines the following variables to assign each keyword an intent type:
- Results from keyword searches include SERP characteristics.
- Words in the term that reveal the user’s purpose are present (for example: buy, address, how).
- whether the keyword is brand-related or not.
Please be aware that a keyword may serve more than one purpose. The tool will reflect this by displaying both pertinent intents next to the keyword.

How Can High Intent Keywords Be Found Using SemRush Reports?
Here are a few quick ways:
1. Verify Any Keyword’s or a List of Target Keywords’ Purpose
Enter up to 100 target keywords at a time into the Keyword Overview’s input field, then click Analyze.
The purpose label for your entire list of keywords is now visible.
Now that each of your keywords has an intent labelled list, you can export this list or email it to Keyword Manager to store your study on the platform.
2. Examine the Keyword Intent Profile of a Rival
Enter the domain name of a rival in Domain Overview, then search for the Organic Search Traffic panel.
To access the Organic Research Positions report, click the bold blue number in this widget. You can filter the keyword list in that report by each sort of intent to get the entire list of their keywords.
Find out which informational keywords bring them the most traffic or how many transactional keywords they rank highly for by using the intent type filter.
In the Pages tab, you can then review their most popular pages. You can see the top organic traffic pages on this list along with the percentage of different keyword intent types that each page ranks for.
Do you notice that their most important pages are being visited mostly by navigational, informational, or transactional keywords?

Simply apply the Intent filter after entering a seed keyword associated with your website.
You can now see searches that are transactional, commercial, informational, and navigational that are relevant to your primary goal question.
Transactional and business-related keywords will have the most intent, making them ideal candidates for paid advertising or landing pages where visitors may directly make a purchase or take action on your website.
Apply the relevant Intent filter to your table to display only these terms.
