What is Play-Way Method of Learning?

Play-Way Method-It focuses not just on the child’s subjective growth but also his or her emotional development. Playing is the driving force in this style of learning, as the entire learning approach revolves around activity-based learning. It encourages children to express themselves and use their imaginations.

How effective is the play-based learning method?

Surprisingly, the pre-primary stage of education is sometimes disregarded, even though it requires extensive research and attention. Preschool is where a child’s foundation is created. The play-way technique of learning is a common method of giving knowledge to children, and it is used in preschools across India.

The child leaves his or her home and encounters the nutshell for the first time while heading to pretend school. As a result, if they are entertained in a play environment in pre-schools, they will feel more at ease and will be able to form bonds with their teachers and other children.

When there is a fun element and play involved, children are always excited. The child can use this strategy to give their imagination wings.

It allows the child to improve physical, creative, imaginative, aesthetic, cognitive, verbal, and other skills.

The play-way method is a one-of-a-kind learning method that can be tailored to the child’s specific interests and needs. As a result, it may differ from child to child. Teachers should prepare activities ranging from easy to sophisticated and develop different personalized learning activities by providing a pleasurable environment.

What could be better for a child than to have a complete sense of freedom? Because this technique of learning is unstructured, it promotes complete freedom of speech. Under this strategy, traditional methods of assessing children based on a grading system are completely abandoned; instead, teachers assess a child’s aptitudes and talents regularly and keep their parents informed.

The children go to the next level by engaging in a variety of activities such as music, conversation with teachers and other children, art, learning and instilling skills, and so on. All of these activities ensure the child’s physical, intellectual, and psychological development, as well as the development of various talents.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to using the play-way style of learning, and it can be blended with other approaches. Preschool trainer certification can provide you with all of the necessary information about this strategy.

A school that wants to include a play-way technique of learning in its curriculum must research every element and arrange the environment accordingly.

My Preparatory School in Kalyaninagar, Pune, is well-known for its innovative approach to learning via play. More information on the 15-year-old pre-primary school can be found here.

What is play-way education, and how does it work?

The play-way or play-based style of teaching is founded on the belief that children have the potential to learn on their own. There is no direct instruction, but teachers meticulously prepare the atmosphere to guarantee that the kid investigates, questions, and comprehends the world around her.

This attitude is most applicable to children in preschool and kindergarten (ages 2.5 to 5) when their growth necessitates a lot of explorative play, movement, and independence.

The course of study

Each school’s curriculum and educational system are unique. Schools may even combine many techniques to create their curriculum. The guiding concept or core principle, on the other hand, is always about allowing the child to learn via play.

Direct teaching of letters and numbers, or any other concept, is postponed in play-way schools. While a five-year-old may have writing exercises that prepare her for regular education, three and four-year-olds learn in a relaxed and play-oriented environment.

The story is similar at another ‘playful’ school in Chennai, SEED International School, where each month’s curriculum is organized around a theme. The topic ‘All about me’ runs throughout the school year.

Depending on the age range, the activities and materials differ. If the subject for the month is Food and Nutrition, the kids are escorted to a market to see, touch, and feel the fruits and vegetables. They engage in role-playing games such as pretending to buy and sell wooden vegetables.

Parents come to buy veggies from the vegetable booth set up by the children and instructors. They also create modest dishes at school on occasion.

SEED International School’s center coordinator, Jayashree, says: “Every month, we incorporate elements such as shapes, letters, numbers, opposites, science, art, and crafts into the curriculum as the children learn about the theme. We begin by introducing activities that will help kids to learn through exploring, experiencing, and playing.

We may show them two vegetables and ask which is longer and which is shorter, or we could ask them to pick all the green vegetables. We can go for a stroll and observe the birds and collect twigs to make a nest while we talk about birds, trees, rain, and weather.”

Material that was utilized

The schools select their learning materials with great care, with the majority of them being open-ended to stimulate creativity and imagination. Simple commonplace objects such as bottle corks or twigs fall into this category.

Animal figurines, wooden veggies, and tactile materials that may be manipulated and assembled into rockets, trains, bridges, and kitchens are all available. Some of the materials are created by the teacher. There are numerous chances for pretend play in schools.

The natural world

The learning environment is divided into several sections. There is an indoor learning environment divided into numerous smaller habitats, such as reading and literacy, math, social and dramatic arts, art, science, and so on.

There’s also an outdoor area with specialized areas for water play, sand play, pretend to play in the kitchen, free play, motor skill development, and more. “A child’s occupation is to play. It is a process of learning. During play, a child’s social-emotional connections, problem-solving abilities, and cognitive grow “Vigna says.

Teaching technique

The instructor in the play-way or play-based approach sets out open-ended content in an engaging manner in the classroom. Any type of material can be used, such as blocks, letters in a bin, or a display of leaves and twigs (to teach numbers, texture, or about plants).

The teacher observes the youngster as he or she begins to work with the content. If a child fails to complete an activity, such as completing a puzzle or stacking blocks, the teacher may continue to observe and wait for the youngster to find out a solution. The use of trial and error is encouraged.

The teacher may offer inquiry-based questions or just join in with the child’s play at times. All activities and resources are designed to aid in the development of age-appropriate abilities and a love of learning in the kid.
